Previous Seasons:
Palau (2005) - 7th Place
Guatemala (2005) - 2nd Place
Heroes vs. Villains (2010) - 19th Place
Casting Stephenie makes sense. She is one of the most popular players of all time. While I was too young to experience the Stephenie hype myself, I hear it was only beat by Rupertmania. In the Palau reunion Jeff talked about how Steph was a role model for young girls, and when Survivor was at its height of popularity in the early 2000s (though it had died down by 2005), that was likely true. However, as much as her casting makes sense, I wouldn't exactly say I'm super hyped for her return. I liked her on her previous seasons, I thought her underdog run on Palau was super fun, and her heel turn in Guatemala was super captivating (with the exception of comments that did not age well, such as using the r word multiple times and calling Bobby Jon gay for celebrating a challenge win). I was even rooting for her to stay over Amanda in Heroes vs. Villains (context: HvV was my third season and I didn't like how James was treating Steph, so I wanted her to stay. If I watched all the seasons leading up to HvV it would have been a much harder choice). With that being said, her run on The Traitors was not very notable. I thought she was pretty boring there, and worry she will be the same here on 50. She doesn't really strike me as the type to adapt to the fast gameplay of the New Era, and will likely be an early boot. If she does stick around, however, I see her working with Joe and anyone else who wants to preach honesty and integrity, which would be very boring. Overall, I think Steph is a good casting choice due to her legacy, but I don't see her being super entertaining.
